Anglo Saxon Construction Course
18 - 19th May 2019
Immerse yourself in the craft skills of our Anglo Saxon forebears with this fully hands-on two day, intensive construction experience at Newhaven Coppice. Over the duration of the weekend we'll undertake the complete process of turning the natural resources of the woodland into an archaeological replica dwelling from the period.
We'll introduce you to the use of traditional early medieval woodworking tools (axes, drawknives, chisels, augers and froes) and techniques to build the hardwood frame, including scribing and chopping out joints, splitting, peeling and hewing. After raising the rafters and assembling the skeleton of the building we'll wattle and thatch the roof.
This is an experience like none other, with the opportunity to live and work as our ancestors once did.
On site camping is available within our beautiful woodland, though for those wanting a more deeper experience space is available to stay within our existing sunken dwelling (select the option below, limited spaces available).
A hot vegetarian lunch is provided each day.
No experience required. All tools and tuition provided.
